Not every car that won’t start needs a new battery. Sometimes all it needs is a jumpstart — and that’s exactly what we’ll determine when we arrive. AAP’s urgent jump start service begins with a proper computerised battery diagnosis. We test your battery’s Cold Cranking Amps (CCA) and State of Health before doing anything else. If your battery is still sound and simply discharged (headlights left on, accessories drained it overnight), we jump start you and you’re on your way.

If the battery has deteriorated past the point where it can reliably hold charge, we’ll tell you honestly — and we can replace it on the spot from our stock of AKIRO, BOSCH, DELKOR, AMARON, and HOPPECKE batteries. You’ll never find yourself jumpstarted one day only to be stranded again the next morning.

We use professional-grade, high-CCA jump start equipment — not the cheap booster cables that most people keep in their boot. High-CCA equipment ensures a clean, controlled current delivery that doesn’t spike your car’s sensitive electronics. Bobby Ng’s background as a Singapore Airlines Aircraft Artisan means protecting vehicle electronics during high-current procedures is non-negotiable.

Why You Should Call a Professional — Not Attempt It Yourself

A jump start sounds simple. Done incorrectly, it can cost you thousands in electrical repairs.

Modern cars have sensitive ECUs Post-2010 cars — particularly Continental makes like BMW, Mercedes, Audi, and Volkswagen — have highly sensitive Engine Control Units. A voltage spike from an improper jump start can damage or reset the ECU, costing S$500–S$2,000 to repair. Our equipment delivers a controlled, regulated current to prevent this.
A damaged or leaking battery can be dangerous A swollen, cracked, or leaking battery should never be jump started — it can ignite the hydrogen gas released during charging. Our mechanic inspects the battery visually before connecting any cables. If your battery is physically damaged, we’ll tell you immediately and replace it instead.
Wrong polarity destroys electronics instantly Connecting jump cables in the wrong order (positive to negative, or vice versa) causes a dead short that can destroy fuses, the battery, the alternator, and control modules in seconds. This is one of the most common DIY mistakes we see — and one of the most expensive ones to fix.
A jumpstart is not always the right solution If your battery’s CCA has dropped below its rated minimum, no amount of jumping will make it reliably hold charge — you’ll be stranded again within hours. A diagnosis tells you the truth. Jumping a genuinely dead battery repeatedly accelerates damage to the alternator, which then has to work harder to recharge it.

How Our Jump Start Service Works

From your call to driving away — here’s the full process.

1
You call 8683 6878 and describe the situation

Tell us your location, car plate, and what happened — left headlights on, woke up to a dead car, car died after a short trip, etc. This helps us pre-assess whether a jumpstart is likely sufficient or whether a replacement may be needed, so we come prepared either way. We confirm your ETA and quote you upfront.

2
We arrive in 20–40 minutes with professional equipment

Our mechanic brings a high-CCA professional jump starter, a computerised battery analyser, and a full stock of replacement batteries. Whatever the battery turns out to need — jumpstart or replacement — we have it covered in one visit.

3
Battery physically inspected before anything is connected

Before connecting any equipment, our mechanic checks your battery for swelling, cracks, leaks, and terminal corrosion. A physically damaged battery will not be jumpstarted — doing so is a safety risk. If the battery is physically sound, we proceed to the diagnostic test.

4
Computerised CCA test — honest recommendation given

We run a digital battery analysis that measures Cold Cranking Amps (CCA), State of Health (SOH), and State of Charge (SOC). The results tell us clearly whether the battery can still perform reliably. If it can — we jumpstart you. If the CCA has dropped significantly below rated spec — we recommend replacement and explain why, showing you the test result.

5
Jump start performed safely with professional equipment

Cables connected in the correct sequence to prevent voltage spikes. High-CCA booster delivers controlled current. Engine started. We do not rush this step — a clean, controlled jumpstart takes 2–3 minutes and protects your car’s electronics. Once started, we leave the engine running for at least 5 minutes before the next step.

6
Alternator output tested — charging system confirmed working

After the jumpstart, we test your alternator’s output voltage (should read 13.8–14.8V with the engine running). If the alternator is not charging properly, a new battery will not fix the problem — you’ll be flat again within a day. We advise you of this and recommend a workshop visit if the alternator is the issue. We leave once we’re satisfied the system is charging correctly.

Common Reasons Your Car Won’t Start

Not every dead car is a dead battery — here’s how we triage the problem.

Symptom When You Try to StartMost Likely CauseJump Start?
Click-click-click, no crankBattery discharged — not enough current to engage starter✅ Usually yes
Single loud click, nothing elseStarter motor solenoid engaging but motor not turning — starter fault❌ No — workshop needed
Slow, laboured crank — engine struggles to fireBattery weakened — low CCA, can’t deliver full starting current⚠️ Temporarily — replace recommended
Complete silence — nothing at allBattery fully flat OR main fuse blown OR ignition fault✅ Try — diagnosis first
Engine cranks fine but won’t fireFuel, spark, or engine issue — not the battery❌ No — workshop needed
Works after jumpstart but dies again quicklyFaulty alternator not recharging battery OR battery too degraded to hold charge❌ Replace battery or fix alternator

Not sure which category you’re in? Call us — describe what you hear when you try to start and we’ll advise you in under a minute.

Jumpstart or Battery Replacement — How We Decide

We never push for a replacement if a jumpstart is genuinely sufficient. Here’s our honest framework.

✅ When a Jumpstart Is Sufficient

  • Battery discharged accidentally (headlights left on, door ajar overnight)
  • Car hasn’t been driven for several weeks and battery self-discharged
  • Battery CCA test shows above 70% of rated capacity
  • Battery is under 18 months old and has no prior issues
  • Alternator is confirmed charging correctly (13.8–14.8V)

After a successful jumpstart, drive the car for at least 30 minutes or keep the engine running for 20–25 minutes to allow the alternator to recharge the battery fully before switching off.

❌ When a Replacement Is the Right Call

  • Battery CCA has dropped below 60% of rated capacity
  • Battery is over 18–24 months old in Singapore’s climate
  • Battery has needed jumpstarting more than once in the past month
  • Battery is swollen, leaking, or has visible physical damage
  • Battery failed to hold charge overnight after a successful jumpstart
  • State of Health reading shows “Replace” on the diagnostic tool

We show you the test results before recommending a replacement. You make the decision — we never replace a battery based on gut feel or upselling incentives.

What If Your Battery Needs Replacing After All?

No problem — we come prepared for both outcomes. If our diagnosis shows your battery needs replacing, we can fit a new one on the spot from our stock of AKIRO, BOSCH, DELKOR, AMARON, and HOPPECKE batteries.

We confirm the correct battery type for your car (standard, EFB, or AGM for Start-Stop vehicles), quote you the replacement price before proceeding, and complete the swap in 5–15 minutes. For Continental cars that require battery registration (BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Porsche), we carry the diagnostic equipment to do this onsite at no extra charge.

The combined jumpstart diagnosis + battery replacement is one seamless visit. You don’t need to call two separate services or wait twice.

Jump Start Service — Frequently Asked Questions

Answered by Bobby Ng, AAP Lead Mechanic

How much does a jump start service cost in Singapore? +

Call us for the current rate — we’ll quote you on the phone before dispatch. There are no hidden fees, no call-out surcharges, and no difference in price for after-hours or public holiday callouts. If a battery replacement is also needed after our diagnosis, we’ll quote that separately before proceeding — you decide.

Is it safe to jump start my car myself? +

It can be done safely with the right equipment and knowledge, but there are real risks. Connecting cables in the wrong order causes a dead short that can destroy your ECU, alternator, or fuses instantly. A swollen or leaking battery can ignite if a spark occurs near it. And for modern Continental cars with sophisticated electronics, any voltage irregularity during a jump can trigger error codes or damage control modules. If you’re not fully confident, it’s safer and often cheaper in the long run to call a professional.

After a successful jump start, how long should I drive? +

Drive continuously for at least 30 minutes, or let the engine idle for 20–25 minutes. This gives the alternator time to recharge the battery. Do not switch the engine off for short trips immediately after a jumpstart — a 5-minute drive to the petrol kiosk and back will not recharge the battery sufficiently and you may find yourself flat again. If possible, take it on a longer drive.

My car starts after a jump but dies again shortly after — why? +

This points to one of two problems: either your battery’s capacity has degraded to the point where it can no longer hold sufficient charge (replacement needed), or your alternator is not generating enough voltage to recharge the battery while driving (workshop needed). Our diagnosis covers both — we test the battery CCA and the alternator output voltage after every jump start so you leave knowing exactly what’s going on.

Can you jump start Continental cars like BMW and Mercedes? +

Yes, but with extra care. BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, and Porsche have sensitive energy management systems and often require the jump start cables to be connected to specific terminals (not directly to the battery). Our mechanics know the correct procedure for each major Continental make. We also carry diagnostic equipment to check for any error codes triggered during the process.

What if the jump start doesn’t work? +

If the jump start fails, it usually means the battery is completely dead (replacement needed), the starter motor is faulty, or there’s a deeper electrical issue requiring a workshop. We’ll diagnose clearly and advise you honestly. If a battery replacement can solve it, we’ll do it on the spot. If the issue requires a workshop, we’ll tell you exactly what to tell your mechanic so you go in informed.

Are you available on public holidays? +

Yes. AAP operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year — including all Singapore public holidays. The rate does not change on public holidays. Call us anytime.
